Frequently Asked Questions

What Mac do I need to run ADHD Reader?

ADHD Reader requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

I opened a recent file and it says it needs to be re-opened. Why?

ADHD Reader uses macOS's App Sandbox for security, which means it needs explicit permission to access each file. If a file appears greyed out or shows an error in your Recents list, simply go to the Open File tab and re-open it using the Choose File button. It will be remembered from that point on.

The Share Extension isn't appearing in Safari's Share menu.

Make sure ADHD Reader is installed in your Applications folder and has been opened at least once. Then go to System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and verify ADHD Reader is listed. If it still doesn't appear, try removing and re-adding it from Safari's Share menu customization.

A webpage isn't importing any text.

Some websites use JavaScript to load their content, which can prevent standard importing from working. ADHD Reader includes a fallback that waits for JavaScript to render before extracting text. If a page still fails, try copying the article text manually and using the Paste Text tab instead.

Can I adjust the reading speed?

Yes. Use the — and + buttons in the toolbar while reading, or click the WPM display to open the speed slider. You can also use the A and A buttons to adjust the font size.

Does ADHD Reader work with EPUB and Kindle books?

ADHD Reader supports EPUB files natively. For Kindle books, you can export them via Kindle's desktop app or use Calibre to convert them to EPUB first.

Will my progress be saved if I close the app mid-read?

Yes. ADHD Reader automatically saves your position. When you re-open a recent file or URL, you'll be offered the option to continue where you left off or start over.

Is there an iPhone or iPad version?

Not yet — ADHD Reader is currently macOS only. An iOS and iPadOS version is being considered for a future release.

I bought the app — do I need to pay again for future updates?

No. ADHD Reader is a one-time purchase. All future updates are included at no additional cost. No subscription, ever.
